The Nature of Object Memory
These experiments ask the question, "How do people remember different
properties of objects, such as location, size, and color?"
Participants study a number of objects scattered around the front and
side walls of
the Cube (Fig. 1; note silhouette of participant to right of center).
The
objects may be covered with different patterns.
After the study period, the objects disappear for several seconds and
the participant is then required to recall some aspect of the object
set. For example, a set of objects may appear on the floor and the
participant is required to drag them to their remembered locations
(Fig. 2), or the participant selects the ones whose
patterns match those that were present during the study period.
